    Star Renegades är ett taktiskt roguelike-rollspel med grafik i pixel-art-stil och procedurellt genererade element. Med hjälp av serviceroboten J5T-1N leder du ett rebellteam mot Imperiets styrkor. Motståndarna utvecklas från strid till strid, vilket gör varje strid unik och ofta utmanande, vilket ibland leder till att dina lagmedlemmar dör. Varje död av en kamrat är en stor förlust. De bildar band med varandra och kan till och med låsa upp avkomma som kan ansluta sig till lagets led i dina framtida körningar. Under strategiska turbaserade strider möter du en mängd olika motståndare och bossar. Du måste anpassa din taktik till dynamiskt föränderliga situationer på slagfältet, använda motattacker och combos eller avbryta fiendens rörelser. Men om motståndaren visar sig vara för stark och besegrar hela laget kommer J5T-1N att förflyttas till en ny, unik dimension för att ta sig an utmaningen igen med ett nytt lag, men med all den kunskap du har fått från de tidigare dimensionerna till ditt förfogande.
