I Ostranauts skapar du din egen kapten och bygger eller anpassar ditt startskepp från byten från dina slag. Du kan bygga ditt skepp i vilken form du vill genom att använda fungerande moduldelar. Delarna har fysiska egenskaper som interagerar med varandra och kan nötas över tid. Hantera allt från arbete till bränslepengar i tankarna till att ta hand om din besättnings fysiska och känslomässiga behov och självklart, se till att skuldindrivarna som väntar på att du ska gå i konkurs håller sig borta en stund till.
